Hydraulic System for Tooling Fixtures

A fixture hydraulic system adopts hydraulic transmission with pressurized oil as working medium to drive actuators such as hydraulic cylinders, enabling automatic positioning, supporting and clamping of workpieces. Replacing conventional manual bolting and pressing clamping methods, it drastically boosts production efficiency and automation level.

Working Principle & Operating Cycle

Taking the basic single-cylinder system as an example, its workflow is detailed below:


Startup

The motor starts and drives the hydraulic pump to draw oil from the tank and build up pressure.


Unloading Mode

While idle, the directional control valve stays at neutral position. Pump delivery oil flows directly back to the tank via relief valve or valve neutral port at low system pressure to save energy and reduce heat generation.


Clamping

Triggered by PLC command or manual clamp button, the solenoid directional valve shifts position. Pressurized oil enters the cap end of the hydraulic cylinder to extend the piston rod and drive the fixture to clamp the workpiece.


Pressure Holding & Locking

System pressure rises once clamping completes. Hydraulic lock seals the oil circuit to avoid backflow. When preset pressure is detected by pressure switch, a ready signal is sent to the machine for machining start.


Machining Process

The machine (e.g., machining center) performs cutting, welding and other procedures.


Unclamping

Upon machining completion, PLC sends reverse signal to energize the solenoid valve oppositely. Pressurized oil flows into the rod end of the cylinder to open the hydraulic lock and retract the rod for fixture release.


Workpiece Unloading

Operators remove finished parts and load new blanks for the next working cycle.
